This is the third annual “Kenny and the Skull” short movie of the US open of surfing. Last year we produced several short videos covering the three day weekend. This year we produced a single video for Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s final. Smaller waves this year but still a lot of fun. Surfers included: Brett Simpson, Jordy Smith, Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning, Miguel Pupo, Jadson Andre, Granger Larsen, Nathaniel Curran, Carissa Moore and legendary David Nuuhiwa

US Open of Surfing Final 2009

On Sunday (July 26, 2009), Brett Simpson won the Hurley U.S. Open of Surfing in his hometown of Huntington Beach beating former world champion Mick Fanning of Australia in a 30-minute final.

Newport Beach Wedge July 2009

Huge southwest groundswell out of Cook Islands hit the Newport Beach Wedge this weekend creating perfect conditions and 16 foot waves for skilled surfers only. This video was shot around 8:00am on Saturday, July 25, 2009 shortly after a very low tide.

The bodyboarder who was shaken up in this video is ok.

Nine time champ Kelly Slater breaks his board today during fridays heat (July 24, 2009). Slater broke his board in two and scrambled to get back in the water. The surfing results speak for themselves in the typical Slates manner.
